1. Who is eligible to apply? 

Artists and collectives without any restrictions on age, nationality, race, gender

4. When will the results be announced?

MID of October 2024


5. How much is the application fee?

There is no application fee


6. Artists working in which media can apply?

  • 2-dimensional visual arts (oil, tempera, acrylic, ink, vinyl, watercolor, graphite, pencil, collage, aquatint, etching and prints of different kind, photo, etc.);

  • Sculpture and installation (physical and digital);

  • Video art (video installations, short films, slow motion, time-lapse, and works created using all animation techniques on both digital and analog mediums);

  • Digital/media art (data art, digital graphics and animation, net art, AR/VR/XR projects, rapid prototyping, digital poetry, game art, generative or algorithmic art, NFT art, metaverse art, GAN art or OpenAI art, crypto art, infographic art, glitch art, etc.);

  • Digital performance (all types of performance in which computer technologies have taken on the main role rather than an auxiliary one in the content, techniques, aesthetics, or delivery forms);

  • Sound art (all artistic activities in which sound is utilized as a primary medium or material)


7. What is the residency period?

During two months (from mid-October to mid-December), it will combine an intensive educational program of applied workshops with the preparation of individual and collective artworks for the final virtual exhibition.

 

8. Is the residency paid?

The organizing committee will provide a stipend of $2,000 for each resident. The first payment will be 10% upon completion of the orientation meeting and 90% after the transfer of artworks produced for the final exhibition.

The stipend amount is a gross total. 


9. What AI tools or resources will be available during the residency?

Residents will be provided with subscriptions to various AI tools used during the lab (Midjourney, Exactly.ai). Additional tools can be purchased independently, using their own funds.


10. What happens if I need to withdraw my application or residency participation?

A selected artist may decline to participate in the residency; in this case, their place may be offered to another applicant.


11. How does the selection process work?

Artists will be selected by the AI Hokusai team and guest experts based on the conceptual and visual strength of the presented portfolios. 

In mid-October, shortlisted artists will be invited to interview with the project team before a final decision is made. 

Selected artists will receive a personalized email containing confirmation of their participation, an agreement with all details of cooperation, and a presentation outlining the residency methodology.


12. When will the final exhibition open?

January 2025


13. When the ArtTech Report will be released?

The ArtTech Report will be released in February 2025. 


14. How do artists-residents participate in the content of the Report?


The images of works created by artists during the residency, as well as interviews with residents, will be included in the final report
